The Guides

Noah Reese- Raised in Hudson, North Carolina, Noah has spent his life exploring the trout-filled waters of Watauga and Ashe County. When he's not exploring small freestone streams, Noah spends a large portion of his time on the famed tailwaters of Tennesee. Between the three of us, Noah is the tailwater expert of the group and prides himself in being one of the best drift-boat guides around. Quite simply, Noah would be described as a fishy dude. If floating down the river putting numbers in the boat and occasionally finding that trophy brown is something that sounds appealing to you, then Noah is the guide for you.

Ryan McKinney- In case you are not aware, my name is Ryan McKinney and I am the founder of Appalachian Hookset. Whenever you interact with someone on the Instagram or Facebook page, I'm the person you are talking to. Additionally, I am the one responsible for the content that you see. Born and raised in the Appalachians, I have spent my entire life in Mitchell County, NC. A small rural county with approximately 15,000 total people. I'm a full-time PE teacher, middle school coach and I spend the rest of my time immersing myself in the world of fly fishing. I pride myself in fishing small streams and throwing streamers for brown trout. Even though I am comfortable euro nymphing and throwing indicator setups, I'm truly at home throwing streamers in dirty water and throwing dry/dropper rigs to native brook trout at 4000 feet in elevation. If interested, I'd be happy to show you how to do either.

Tristian Cody Sutton (TC)- Known by the Instagram handle of "Rainbowtrouttc", TC is truly the king of finding trophy trout, most notably rainbows. Born and raised in rural Yancey County, a neighbor to Mitchell, TC has spent his life chasing trout and bass in every way imaginable. An expert in both fly fishing and spin fishing, TC simply gets fish in the net. Even though he can catch fish in any way imaginable, he is truly the euro nymphing expert of the group. If you're interested in learning how to target big fish and how to improve your nymphing game, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone better at it.
