About the Creator

For whoever is reading this, welcome! Welcome to a website created for those who wish to learn more about the amazing sport of trout fishing. Featured on this website is a number of different blog posts each addressing many different topics. Prior to reading the posts, it may be important to you, to know who's writing them.

My name is Ryan, and I am 27 years old from Western North Carolina. Unlike many, I am not a fly fishing purist. I love to fly fish and find a certain amount of beauty in it that cannot be achieved through anything else. Having said this, I am a fisherman first and fly fisherman second. At this point, when it comes to trout, I am fly fishing only, except in special situations. However, it is not uncommon for me to use green Senko worms targeting smallmouth bass with a spin rod and Shimano reel.

My blog posts will be addressing issues and topics from this mindset and foundation. Even though there will be an emphasis on fly fishing, it is not the only thing I do and I feel that it isn't a question of spin or fly but rather a question of, which will I do today?

In terms of a basic breakdown, it is as follows. When I fish our small wild creeks, I only fly fish with no exceptions. When I fish my local stocked trout water, I fly fish approximately 95% of the time. So the majority, yes, but I feel that a spin rod on some days can be fun and extremely effective. As for ponds or lakes, I rarely fly fish these bodies of water. I may fly fish in a pond with a dry fly to have fun with the smaller fish, but it is not my primary tactic. As for big rivers fishing for carp, smallmouth, or whatever else may be in there, I have much more of a 50/50 split in regards to fly vs spin.

I include this information because I want everyone to understand, I am not "Fly Only" and do not look down on anyone with a spin rod in their hand.  I encourage everyone to fly fish at some point in their life and it is my primary tactic when fishing for trout. Additionally, at this point, I would consider myself rather knowledgeable about it and can talk about it all day long. So without further delay please enjoy the page. Yes, it will by fly fishing driven, but understand that as long as you are respecting our environment and treating trout the way they should be treated, I'm not against spin fishing by any means.
